Warhol Endangered Species Series
Alfred Pellan, Buste de femme
This Alfred Pellan work was stolen in 1993 in Canada and, thankfully, listed on the INTERPOL database of stolen works of art.
Fast forward to 2025 when a Canadian auction house sells the artwork to a client. Before the sale could be finalised, the INTERPOL listing is discovered during the due diligence process.
Art Recovery International is brought in by the insurance company who not only paid out on the loss but currently insures the potential buyer. ARI’s Christopher A. Marinello negotiated a confidential settlement with the Consignor of the painting who acquired the artwork in the Canadian art market years earlier.
Once title had been cleared, INTERPOL was notified, and the sale was allowed to proceed. Coming full circle, the painting is now being enjoyed by a different collector but insured by the very same Insurer.
